International Museum Day
The worldwide community of museums will celebrate International Museum Day on and around 18 May 2017. The theme chosen for 2017 is "Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums".
The objective of International Museum Day is to raise awareness of the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.” Organized on and around 18 May each year, the events and activities planned to celebrate International Museum Day can last a day, a weekend or a whole week. Participation in International Museum Day is growing among museums all over the world. In 2016, more than 35,000 museums participated in the event in some 145 countries.
On the occasion of the International Museum Day, Iran National Committee for ICOM with cooperation of the Iranian Research Center for Cultural Heritage has invited Iranian Art Galleries as well as Iranian artists to join the international community and collaborate in presenting the bond between museums, cultural heritage and Iranian contemporary art in order that a meaningful and sound dialogue could be established among cultural heritage and art: so that safeguarding of this very important day can further be enhanced and enriched.
For this occasion, an exhibition from 29 May to 3 June from 4 to 8 pm. is established in Shalman Art Gallery which portraying 17 boards by Babak Germchy in different sizes.
