Title:
Intimations of solitudeSummary:
Solo painting exhibition by Payman Sahrady
Statement:

At the start of any Endeavor, there are grand motivations: changing the world, raising awareness, fixing trends, and such. But as one takes steps on the path, it becomes clear that these aims are unattainable alone, and instead, we find ourselves constantly battling against waves that seek to drag us down. In art, the result is either a weak imitation or a powerful blow, the artist must scratch, bind, enclose and create something that almost touches the fourth dimension with line, colour, resonance, and thought. Thus, art is not meant to liberate. The paintings in this exhibit are not pere abstract reconstructions. They are a combination of wounds, connections, and coils that result from pain, trauma, loss, and existential fires that have been crystallized into meaning and representation. The elusive initial idea is fenced off, and finding it requires complete immersion, scratching the brain and staining the painting until both are drenched in ink and gems. These paintings invite the admirer to partake into this solace, closing the cold doors behind them. This "soulful mess" has no price and cannot traded as it is not meant for comfort; it exists to explode wounds. There is no reason for anyone to buy their own imprisonment. These paintings must appear more and more before our eyes, to sit before us and be seen, for there is no pleasure in self-inflicted pain.
